Thai Massage and Thai Acupressure

A combination of acupressure massage, joint manipulation and passive yoga stretches applied in a soothing rhythm

thai massage

Thai massage is a clothed massage combining acupressure, compression, massage, joint manipulation and stretches. The relative balance of techniques used in a treatment depends on individual needs. It is the combination that makes it a unique and potent massage form.

thai massage can be long

Traditionally Thai massage varies in length from 1 hour to 2 ½ hours. This may seem very long compared to some treatments but is due to it being very thorough. In keeping with the view of the yoga tradition, any health or body issue is part of a whole body/person situation and cannot truly be viewed in isolation.

short versions

Although longer sessions are the ideal for a Thai massage, it is an adaptable massage form and shorter more focused sessions are possible and effective. It is also possible to have ½ hour or 45 minute back neck and shoulder treatments.

Just some of the conditions Thai massage can benefit include:

  • Aches and pains
  • Back, neck and shoulder problems
  • Stiffness
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Poor circulation
  • Stress and fatigue

It is also great:

  • As a tonic
  • To support detox
  • As a support and complement for yoga, martial arts, dance and sport so you can get more from your discipline.
  • To take out energy sapping mental and physical tension to give you more energy for your life.

natural health

In common with other natural health practices Thai massage is holistic in approach and aims to support the natural healing and self-rejuvenating capacities of body and mind. Other common health issues not listed above can resolve or improve in response to the overall rebalancing process of Thai massage.

chronic conditions

Chronic longer-term conditions generally take longer to resolve. In these cases three to six treatments fairly close together can make a significant difference. As with any natural health practice, self help in the form of appropriate exercise, diet and lifestyle adaptation will support the effectiveness of Thai massage treatments.

maintainence and prevention

For a general boost for health and vitality, again three to six treatments fairly close together can be very beneficial. As a preventive, a Thai massage every two, four or six weeks is the recommendation. You can of course have a treatment to relax and rejuvenate anytime.
